EDIT: Pokemon gen 1-3 would have been included had I not been stupid and forgotten about them. Big mistake on my part. I also realized I left off Heroes of Might and Magic 1-3. Pokemon would probably be placed 5th and Heroes placed 4th, bumping everything else up. Everyone has those games they really enjoy, the ones that hold a special place to them. Here is a list of the 10 games that I have enjoyed or have meant the most to me over the years. They are counted down towards the one that I would say is the best. What would yours be? Honorable Mentions: Crash Bash, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Risk, Vigilante 8, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Athens 2004. 10. Halo 3 Halo 3, a classic. This game was huge when I was in high school and I spent many afternoons over at Nic's (yes the one from the site) house playing custom games like Fat Kid and Klapp. Before Soccer games I had a teammate come over and we would play the campaign, and we had many overnight hangouts that involved hours of Halo 3. First true online game that I played extensively. 9. Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon Spyro is at it again, battling various enemies trying to retrieve stolen eggs. This was one of the first games I really had the opportunity to play on my own on the Playstation. I spent many hours struggling over this game, only to have my save file destroyed by my brother (a fact I still bring up). I was able to replay the game and beat it again. Spending time as Sgt. James Byrd is always enjoyable. 8. Star Wars Battlefront II Star Wars Battlefront was a great game, what could be done to improve the game? Add in the ability to become your favorite hero or villain. While some of the force abilities are harder or more overpowered than others, the chance to sprint around covering the map in a matter of seconds is always a good time. This was another game that I played with multiple groups of friends. We would go to the game setup screen and pick all maps all types and just run through every scenario. 7. Assassins Creed Black Flag A good friend of mine (Flaig) let me borrow this game. I had bought Assassins Creed III and really enjoyed it so he felt I would enjoy this one as well. I did/have/do. Kenway is an awesome character to play, it's fun building up the Jackdaw and battling the British, Spanish, and other pirates. I've played many hours of this game on my own, the mechanics are very smooth and the story flows nicely. 6. Def Jam Fight for New York The first M rated game I ever convinced my mom to let me buy. Back in the day I was obsessed with rap, so the opportunity to have some of my favorite artists (Snoop Dogg, Sean Paul, Ludacris, David Banner, etc) fight against each other in no holds barred street fights was pretty much the greatest thing ever. My neighbor had the game and we would have a group of us play in mini tournaments we made up. 7th, 8th and 9th grade free time ended up being soaked up by a lot of Def Jam. 5. Super Mario Bros This game is more sentimental than anything. When I was younger we didn't really have many video games but when we visited my Grandfather they had an NES with a few games. Super Mario Bros 3 was our favorite game because we could each take turns playing and progress together. We ended up figuring out a secret route we could use to get to the end quickly (I couldn't tell you how to do it at all anymore). The nostalgia is a strong reason for the love of this game. 4. Final Fantasy Tactics When I was little, again, I would visit my Uncle Nick and he always was playing this Final Fantasy game that seemed incredibly cool. Finally, one day he let me start my own game and taught me how to play. He bought a copy of the game for me and I brought it home and played it non-stop. It was a good conversation piece and was a cool tie to one of my biggest role models in my life! I still play this game frequently to this day (on the computer now). 3. Super Smash Brothers Melee What used to be a regular priced game now is going for over $100. If you have a group of friends and a Gamecube with four controllers then this is the game for you. The best (in my opinion) of the Smash Brothers games. A good blend of the different characters, most of which seemed pretty evenly matched if you practiced with them enough. We would play a "win with everyone before you can be someone twice" to make sure people were switching characters frequently. Such a classic, still fantastic, always willing to play this game if anyone ever wants to. 2. Age of Empires II: Age of Kings I can remember going to Costco with my mom and going to the computer game section just to look at the box for this game. I finally scraped up enough money to buy it and have never made a better investment. The single player aspect of the game is unbearably fun, but it is the multiplayer aspect that sets it head and shoulders above most. With a group of friends (Zach, Seth and Nic from the site), as well as a handful of others, we have played near a hundred multiplayer matches against each other and computers. The combination of strategy, planning and luck are always fun and leaves for every game to be enjoyable and competitive. Unless there are too many trading carts................ (right Nic!?) 1. Kingdom Hearts Wow. This game was a pure masterpiece (in my opinion). I am a colossal Disney fan and this game was a combination of that and fighting. Bouncing from world to world, hearing and seeing your favorite characters, every time you went to a new world it felt too good to be true. The first time you see the villains silhouettes sitting around the cauldron and you are trying to figure out who each one of them are so you can figure out what worlds there would still be. I bought this game right after Christmas and we had a ton of snow days in early January. Each morning my routine was to wake up before everyone and play, go outside so I could gain more TV time and then come back in and play more. There was no feeling like when you earned the ability to see your opponents health bar! Truly awesome game, couldn't really get into the second game and may try it again in the future. But in my eyes, this game was a true home run!
Hope you enjoyed the list. Maybe we have some of the same games, maybe not. Let me know yours! Comments are closed.
